Awareness

Back to work, means less time for blogging.

The first week of the new plan hasn't gone maybe as well as it could. Wednesday was supposed to be the tempo run day. When I finally left work an hour late, I got a call from my wife. She asked how I was. My response was "I've got a head ache and its dark." The hope of last week's lingering daylight and two long weekends worth of runs in the daylight were shattered in one crappy evening.

I joined a bare bones group of Cruisers on Saturday for a few miles on our old standby, the Santa Ana River Path. The weather during Saturdays run reminded me very much of Rocket City, drizzly and overcast, just 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Many Cruisers were participating in the OC Half and Marathon the following day. The unfortunate thing about this marathon, now in its fourth year, it that it has rained on 2 of the 4 runnings. It never rains in California, remember. Another very cool thing is that one of our own Cruisers was chosen as the December Runner of the Month by the OC Marathon.

Today, after the Chargers beat the Titans, Bryan and I headed off to the gym. We did 25 minutes on the bikes and then worked out chest and bicep machines. Now thanks to the gym I'm not only always keenly aware of my legs, I'm now aware of my arms, back and chest as well.

I have decided that those machines at the gym are of the devil! It always surprises me how just a "little" bit of weight can cause so much pain.

Heh! I'm going to "workout" today too, to keep my "streak" alive. I'm sure my arms and chest and stomach will thank me later ;-)

If Ryan Hall needs that core work so do we.

Yeah, bummer how work gets in the way of our running :-)

We'll have to have a warm welcome for the Chargers here this weekend!

Keep hanging in there, Darrell...if you miss one day, you've not destroyed the plan!

I think a lot of have the early winter blues. We'll snap out of them once the days get longer again.

BTW, your Foo Fighters/Cookie Monster comment cracked me up. I hadn't even thought of that before - and now I can't get it out of my head. I smell a guest appearance on Sesame Street for those guys soon.

And sorry to say, I think the Chargers are done.

Hang in there, Darrell! Before long we'll be complaining about how hot it is. ; ) : )

Joe's right - one off day doesn't blow the whole plan. In a month, that one day missed won't even matter! Hope you get some sunshine back soon! I'm almost hoping for rain here, because sunshine brings freezing temps and slick early morning streets. Makes me nervous!

Thanks for stopping by and all your support....can't wait to get the golden singlet now...wish it would get here in time for Houston this weekend but I'm sure that is doubtful....

I hate how work tends to get in the way of the running and the blogging:) I've been pumping some iron myself. Good luck at the gym and on the roads.
